Ladysmith Black Mambazo is one of Africa’s greatest music groups. The proposed music academy is to be built on the outskirts of Ladysmith, the group’s hometown in South Africa. This public building has a hotel facility, libraries, arts shops, classrooms, theatres, rehearsal and recording studios. The academy will specialise in African indigenous music, as a result the architectural intervention had to embrace vernacular architecture and arts. Arranged around a symbolic hill, the academy was designed as a permanent museum that seeks to educate visitors about local architecture, music, arts and culture.
