BOTSWANA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

(The Oasis) 45000m² Mixed-Use Development in the heart of Gaborone with a retail component on the lower levels, commercial zone on the mid levels and a residential zone on the upper levels. The design responds to the client’s high GLA requirements on a restrictive site. Our design philosophy was inspired by Botswana’s development and its impact on the African continent. The architecture is a celebration of Africa’s natural wealth as a transformative force to inspire future prosperity in the continent. It is the hope that this wealth will be harnessed to provide opportunities to further develop our continent and sustain its people.

In massing The Oasis represents a series of juxtapositions and contrasts. The undulating fluidity of its water like base is intersected by striking orthogonal rigidity of rock like towers. This contrast evokes the rich alluvial formations of Africa embedded with minerals. The sweeping curvilinear forms refer to the unique interplay of rising water and earth as seen in Africa’s great rivers such as the Mosi-oa-Tunya (“rising water”).
